Background: Afognak Wilderness Lodge--Who is here, and what I do (so far :) )

Afognak Wilderness Lodge functions as mainly a hunting lodge.  Right now we are on the tail end of the bear hunts.  We have three guests here right now: A couple and their son.  As soon as they get a bear they will be leaving.  The longest they can stay is to May 16th.  So right now, that is what we are looking at as far as guests for the rest of May.

This Lodge has been created from the ground up by Shannon and her late husband, Roy. It has been around for 40 years or so and has many returning guests.  It is a homey place and is a wonderful refuge from the world.
View from the float plane coming in

We came in on the blue float plane at the very end :)

Our Lovely garden...complete with peas in the back!
The next couple of weeks for me are going to be getting this place all ready for when we have photographers and fishermen come for the summer.  We have currently been very busy with weeding the garden and planting the vegetables.  It has been very tedious and we have been working extremely long hours.  It has been great to be outdoors though. It is so beautiful here!  We have been enjoying the bald eagles that sore above us.  We are enjoying the sun--which doesn't go completely down until 11 p.m. or so...now that's a little strange for me for sure!!  It has been great for Caitlin and I to get to know each other as well. We sit in the garden and just chat and ask each other questions. That's been fun.

Our workload will change a little bit once we have a steady flow of guests.  We will be working full days still, but not quite like we are doing now.  It sounds like we will have a more structured schedule which will be nice :)  From what I understand we will be helping in the kitchen, making lunches for fishermen on the boats during the day, as well as processing fish and packaging them etc.  We will be learning all sorts of new skills and I am very excited for that!

So that's a little bit about where I am.  I can't explain how beautiful it is here.  I will try to post pictures to display the beauty.  Its amazing :)  The people are great too..as far as I can tell.  Here is a little bit of a preliminary background for each of them.

Shannon:  She is the owner and main operator of the lodge.  She manages the schedule, paperwork and things like that.  She is a member of the LDS church for about 30 years.  She has LOTS of stories and talks quite a bit!  In short, we have to be very careful when we go in to ask her a question...because we might not get out for an hour or more!  She is a good person though and I will enjoy working for him.

Josh and Luke: They are Shannon's sons They lead the bear and deer hunts and are great outdoor-men. They both pretty much do everything!  They have helped build many of the buildings here, they maintain the grounds, take guests on the boats and out hunting, and basically everything around this place.

Jordan: I have only briefly talking to Jordan, but he is a nice guy.  He is Shannon's grandson.  As far as I understand he does much of what Luke and Josh do.

Brian:  He is an outstanding cook.  So far I have eaten soooo good!! I planned to lose some weight this summer/fall, but I don't think that will be happening if I don't watch what I eat better!!  He has made some of the most amazing pastries, great potatoes, venison, scallops in rice, many different salads, different breads and the desserts are superb!!  I could go on and on!!

Caitlin, Sadie and I :)
Sadie:  Sadie is our little golden lab.  She is so cute!! She enjoys carrying around rocks and won't play with anything else.  We have enjoyed playing with her in the garden.  She doesn't bark and is just awesome.

So far that is the staff!! There will be a couple of other people joining us, but for the most part, that's it!!  I look forward to getting to know each of these people better!!
